We are happy to announce that the IPFire project joined the Open Invention Network (OIN) this week.

OIN is a community of over 1500 members that pledge to not use patents aggressively against each other. This way Open Source software becomes free software. Joining does not cost us any money. Every member just has to agree to not use any of their (future) patents aggressively against any other the other members of the community among which are big names like the founders Google, Red Hat, IBM, NEC, SuSE, Sony, Philips, and many more

The benefit is not just for the project alone. Every user of IPFire can be sure that he or she will not get charged for any kind of patent violation by any of the other members of OIN. This makes IPFire one more step ready for corporate use.
